Weather (Part 1)

I just found two very good weather books for our
local climate and some fascinating facts. Everything
for global warming to predicting weather by watching
sheep is discussed. Understanding local weather can
be useful and connects us to nature, so i'll ramble
on and try to generate some interest in this topic.

First, here is a test to check our level of knowledge.

 1. What is a heat island?
 2. What causes weather movement and
what does the global pattern look like?
 3. What does a jet stream tell us and why
does it shift north and south?
 4. Can animals really predict the weather?

The concept of a heat island was created by urban areas
when human activity has changed the weather. A city is
warmer than the surrounding area and has a slightly different
weather pattern.

Generally global weather is due to temperature differences (sun's
heating) and shifts between the north and south. The collision
point between warm and cold air is where the jet stream exists
and is driven by this encounter. It moves with the seasons.

And finally, animals are good weather forecasters and much
information has been collected.

(continued if it keeps raining and motivation is sufficient)
