This seems to assume that we can determine "improvement", "imperfect" and
"finest specimens".  Although I can see the case for thinning, I think we'd
have a better chance of "helping" the forest if we simply take fewer trees
from any given area.  Our appetite for wasteful wood based products is a
significant part, as is how we get the trees we use. Looking at it from all
sides is necessary.
