Yes - we often have it in summer. Apple juice for preference. Honey is
good. Pearled barley cooks for me in 20 - 30 minutes - as you say its less
nutritious than whole. Its a very different taste and texture, like the
difference between white and brown rice. We eat both kinds of both. Good
dish to leave in the bottom of the stove all day is a free range chicken
(as elderly as you like) jointed, a couple of ounces of barley per person,
plenty of oregano or thyme (whichever grows in your area and time of year),
onions, tomato (optional), water to cover. Cover tightly and forget until
evening
