Solving Eco Problems

Locally the governor announced the goal of creating a
sustainable state (Oregon). This concept is actually
supported by segments of industry and a large percent
of the population. Prior to this the governor had a
program to clean up the rivers. In both cases the key
is/was to ask questions and present an honest view of
the problem. Why is this important?

If i was to select one propaganda technique that is
destroying politics and economics it would be control
of questions (issues). We are drowning in information
and issues which have little importance. Many of these
issues are emotional but do not lead to anything meaningful.

The most important step in problem solving is to
  define the problem.

It is much easier to control thinking by focusing on questions
that favor one viewpoint than it is to manipulate facts and
or use logic.

Here in America we determined that a presidents sexual ethics
were important and we spent a small fortune exploring the issues.
There were lots of questions asked and the answers didn't lead
to anything useful. If we look at the motivations for the questions
it goes something like this:

 1. Entertainment and media ratings
 2. Political advantage for some groups
 3. People like to raise their image by seeing others faults.
 4. The issue was comfortable and did not require anyone
    to act or feel responsible.

What the questions did not do:

 1. Open up an issue of highest priority.
 2. Change anything for the better.
 3. Identify why this issue is more important than others.

I'm not saying ethics are not important, just that this issue
asked all the wrong questions and was not motivated by
a desire for positive change.

How do we build ethics and maintain free choice?
  Who controls the questions?
  What is important?
How do we select important issues?
