The Index of Leading Cultural Indicators
Anyone who thinks American culture is healthy will find
this book a shock. The overall impression is of a culture
in rapid decline. I've been told that Reason magazine
has concluded we are in much better shape than in years
past. Makes one wonder how such divergent
viewpoints are possible.
On the energy front some analysts are now saying the
price of oil will keep rising but it will not impact
the economy. Huh? A few months ago they were oblivious
to the oil situation and now they think it will not
impact the economy!?
Seems to me that costs are going up (inflation) and the
oil exporting countries will try to squeeze all the money
they can out of existing supplies. Manufacturing countries
will put oil as a key element in foreign policy decisions.
Energy use will make another small shift towards renewables
and coal. Nuclear may make another try at selling people
on it potential.
