Some thoughts about community...

The UK Permaculture journal had an article on
community, describing the experiences of a small
group in New Zealand. I was impressed by
two ideas.

Conflicts are very common in setting up
communities and often we seek right/wrong
answers or solutions. What we ignore are
ways to live with diverse value systlems
  and disagreement.

In small community it is better to accept and set
up process rather than seek rules or resolution. The
following setps were presented in the article:

 1. The community begins with a course in
    communication and community skills.

 2. Wholistic Goal Setting and how it relates
to core values needs to be discussed.

 3. Everyone needs to have taken a Permacultlure
    design course.

 4. Everyone in the community should do one
hands on project together before joining
    into a community.

Notice that none of these steps go into problem solving.
The conclusion i came to is: WE are the problem and education
is part of the answer.
