Kader Asmal is well respected here. His working for water programme was one
of the few government programmes that met the targets they has forecast and
raised consciousness about water issues. He is now minister of Education, I
am not sure who the current Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry is.

There were some questions raised about how well the people employed to
remove aliens were trained. Also there was not much focus on replanting and
soil stabilisation. But at least something was seen to be happening and some
of the poorest communities benefited directly in the form of temporary
employment.
