What is the principle behind this? Do you use the water when it's still
hot to melt out grease and soap scum? I fail to understand how pasta water
would clean a drain when ordinary water flows through the drain on a
regular basis and doesn't seem to put the drain cleaner manufacturers out
of business.

4. Sometimes the best drain cleaner is cooking
water. For example, after cooking spaghetti
the water can be poured down the bathroom sink.
Doing this once a month will often prevent clogged
drains.
