Review of the book:
The Lost Art of Drawing the Line
  by Philip K. Howard

This is a book suggesting our laws have
become our jailers and often do not lead
to fairness. It presents numerous examples
where Judges following the law act in ways
that hurt the innocent.

In essence it is an attack on the belief
we can create fair laws for everything.

The suggested solution is to give judges
some ability to consider fairness rather
than interpreting existing laws.

Strange as it may seem this book is touching
on a basic component of an ecopath, "process".
It shows that life is a moving target and you
can't define everything exactly. On the other
hand you can't have fairness without some guidelines.

If you try to have laws covering everything then
people stop thinking about fairness and focus
on the laws. A few powerful organizations can
find ways to change the laws to their advantage.

I don't know what to think of this book. It
is touching on a real problem but some
solutions may create worse problems. For starters
we may want to define "fairness".
