One or two years ago i predicted that the increased
consumption of coffee in the US would cause health
problems. It is now occurring. All the statistics are
not in but here are a few facts:

Headaches have become a very common complaint
and the complaints appear to be growing.

The number one type of headache is "rebound".

The number one cause of "rebound" headaches
 is caffeine from coffee.

Statististics on TV viewing are confirming that grades,
depression, and knowledge all suffer when TV begins
to dominate our life.

 ----

My contention is that our treatment of the environment
begins at home and someone who watches lots of TV
and overuses drugs (coffee) will seldom be a positive
influence.

 ----

Is this true of all types of consumption? Could our use
of oil be considered an excessive drug? Is our quality
of life actually reduced by oil? I think so. Here is the
reasoning:

 1. Our use of oil has caused long distance commutes
which weakened local community. People now
play and shop far from home.
 2. The pollution due oil has crept everywhere and now
     threatens our air and water.
 3. Our dependence on oil has put basic society at
risk. We may not do well in the withdrawl period.
 4. World problems often have oil motivations lurking
in the background. Going way back to WWII, the
invasion of Poland was partially about oil but other
reasons were claimed at the time.
 5. Global climate change is beginning to cause some
suffering and may eventually destroy us.

jeff (going to Costco today for some shopping, yeah I'm
      part of the problem)
