New drivers are ususally brought up in RedBoot, since it is polled
only and allow you to get the basic functionality working before
having to deal with interrupts.

To help with debugging, try enabling the DEBUG flags in
via_rhine.h. This should give you some clues as to what is going
wrong.

Note that the rhine driver has only ever been properly tested on the
SH boards, never on a PC. Also if, as you say, the device you have is
a derivative of the rhine, there may be some subtle differences that
you may need to track down. This is the most likely cause of your
problems.
