After attempting a reinstall, I got the error again: this time, however,
I checked /var/log/syslog, and found this little gem:

"May 7 17:40:31 ubuntu ubiquity: Removing ecryptfs-utils ...
May 7 17:40:31 ubuntu ubiquity: ERROR: Cannot remove ecryptfs-utils, as it
appears to be in use:
May 7 17:40:31 ubuntu ubiquity: [/home/chris/.ecryptfs]
May 7 17:40:31 ubuntu ubiquity: dpkg: error processing ecryptfs-utils
(--purge):
May 7 17:40:31 ubuntu ubiquity: subprocess pre-removal script returned error
exit status 1"

That would make sense; that directory does indeed exist, AFAIK. I'll try
deleting it; however, this bug still applies, and results in a very
broken system.

(I also have screenshots of every GUI error, in case anyone is
interested)
