As one of the few mainframe bigots on the list, let me suggest IBM's Data
Interchange if you have an MVS option. We routinely translate 841 Binary
transactions that range from 30 meg to 300 meg files. An individual
transaction may contain 20 or more images that averages 30 to 40k each. We
translate from 10,000 to 25,000 images per day.  I don't know the cost. It
was the company standard before I got involved in EDI. There is a batch
version and a CICS version.
