The CONTRL message is a Service Message, and not a User Message like ORDERS,
INVOIC, etc., and is defined within the EDIFACT syntax itself (ISO 9735),
and
not in the message directories (D97A, and so on). That's why it's so hard to
find any guidelines about CONTRL.
In this way there is no CONTRL D97A; there are only CONTRL version 2, in
ISO 9735-2, CONTRL version 3, in ISO9735-3, and so on.
You'll have to determine which syntax version you are using, and use the
corresponding CONTRL. Since you are using the D97A directory, I suspect
you are using either ISO 9735-2 or ISO 9735-3, but you can check this
in the UNB segment of one of your interchanges:
UNB+UNOA:2 for charcater set A, syntax version 2, or
UNB+UNOB:3 for character set B, syntax version 3, for example.
