Our featured speaker will be Andrew Bartels of GIGA.
Andrew Bartels is an analyst covering electronic commerce trends
and technologies. Prior to joining Giga Information Group, Andy
held a variety of vice president positions at American Express
in technologies, strategic planning and re-engineering. Most
recently he was acting head of the Electronic Commerce Center
of Excellence and vice president of e-commerce enterprise strategy
and standards, covering both the Internet and smart cards. Earlier,
Andy developed and implemented American Express� Internet payment
strategy and led the implementation of technology for supporting
the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Secure Electronic Transaction
(SET) protocols.
Prior to American Express, Andy worked as an economics researcher,
writer and editor for various organizations, including Shearson
Lehman Brothers; the U.S. House of Representative�s Committee
on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs; and the Council on Wage
and Price Stability in the Executive Office of the President.
Andy earned a B.A. in philosophy from Haverford College and a
Ph.D. in history from John Hopkins University.
Title: Secrets of Success in E-Commerce
Is E-commerce all about selling products over the Internet?
For some companies, the answer is yes. But for most companies,
e-commerce involves many more opportunities besides or in addition
to Internet sales. The presentation will discuss business models
for success (or non-success) in e-commerce, how companies can
decide what to use the Internet for besides sales, how they can
determine if the Internet is a threat or an opportunity, and
what challenges they need to address to have a successful e-commerce
strategy.

Traveling NORTH on I-75 Take Exit #81A (I-285 Bypass EAST). Proceed
to Exit 21 (Ashford-Dunwoody Road) then turn LEFT on Ashford-Dunwoody

every 15 minutes from the street level Taxi station at Dunwoody.
