Not every EDI product takes that approach Randy - if you take a
look at our product Chameleon the mapping logic is done using
a graphical approach. The final destination of the fields are in
memory table like objects that have a stub code interface
accessible via C++, Delphi, Visual Basic and an ActiveX interface
which can be used from any language.

>From there the programmar does have to write their own database
access code - but that's easy to do with most languages and it
gives the developer complete control - useful for issues of optimisation
of SQL etc. - all fairly standard non-guru type skills.

We've had customers, without extensive knowledge of EDI or HL7
get real interfaces up and running within three days of downloading
Chameleon. It's not rocket science.

Alternatives exist <grin>

Cheers,
Eliot

Yes! Why do many of these EDI use a unique language to implement a map? This
unique language may take months to learn. It turns EDI into an un-accessible tower
to SMEs that cannot hire a full time EDI guru.
