We have struggled to make this as bulletproof as possible,
but it is still an ongoing process.
The information we wanted was: what did the VAN send us,
what did the translator process, what was placed into the
application interface, what is in the application. Those are
our checkpoints. Unfortunately, the first checkpoint is
incomplete, because not all our VANs send us an activity
report, and the one we do get is sometimes ambiguous.
The others we control and we do get very good information.
If our trading partners would use control numbers, especially
at the transaction set level, we could get by without the VAN
reports. Our translator would alert us to missing or duplicated
transactions.
