I am very sorry that you felt I was being nasty to William; to whom I
intended no offence whatsoever, and who I sincerely hope took no offence
either. I class myself as a technician; someone who spends his time
trying to get EDI to work successfully - often for small firms with few
resources who are pressured into using it. I have nothing much against
XML: It is verbose, but likely to be better supported by applications
software than conventional EDI. I *do* get irritated by those who
propose it as a magic bullet, and so I was agreeing with William when he
asked what the big deal was.

Perhaps it was the style of the response which you found offensive? That
was consciously modelled on Ambrose Bierce's 'Devils Dictionary'; to my
mind an insufficiently appreciated American Classic, but the acid in it
was for the hype merchants, not for William.

Arrogant .... very possibly, I fear. High salary? ..... if only!

Regards
Chris
