Egroups (merged with onelist.com recently) has worked great for another list I
belong to. I just got finished going through 500 emails (very active) from
that list as a matter of fact. (took a sabbatical on email from known origins
this summer). Now I am back and that is why I am responding late to this
thread.
There is no difference between EDI-L and an Egroups when it comes to the way
you send and receive your email from the last. The difference is that Egroups
can add features to EDI-L that we do not have. The features are accessed from
the web, but do not have to be accessed at all. You can sign up for an
Egroups list via email (or the moderator can sign you up automatically) and
you do not have to go to the website to do so.
You do NOT have to GO TO THE WEBSITE to retrieve the email, and you do not
even need a browser.
Ads appear at the very bottom of emails to the list. This is an example of an
ad you will get on Egroups:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Improve employee retention and customer loyalty, with American Express
Incentive Services.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or you may get a banner ad, but ads appear at the very bottom of emails to the
list and are unobtrusive. Banner ads will not show up when you read offline
and without a browser.
