We are looking into a service with several vans which offer to convert our
850 X.12, or any formatted data and put it onto a web page for our smaller
business partners to pick up. This is for those who can't afford a van, or
EDI per se. The partner could then enter an invoice on a Web form, which the
van would pull and convert into an X.12 810, Edifact INVOIC, or even an
application file. If the partner doesn't want to use a web form, and instead
insists on sticking with a faxed form, some vans will handle that, too.
Giving our business partner and us the data in any format we want.
The question on our minds is how much do we outsource, and how much do we
handle in-house. Obviously we could host a web page containing our orders,
and allowing the vendor to enter invoices to a web form of our own design.

This confuses me slightly, since I thought that a feature of 'EDI over
the Internet' was that one was *not* tied to any particular VAN, and
could use one's normal ISP. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
(despite my unfortunate reputation this is a genuine, rather than
ironic, query)
