The Allegiance 2000 project is a great place to start. They have
implemented a strategy that combines the UCC-128 serialized bar code label
and the 856. The implementation is similar to the retail industries rollout
of this supply chain technique. Allegiance 2000 is geared toward
palletization of all shipments to their DCs. It seems to be a very
successful rollout for Allegiance.

their
'generic' 856 spec. Anybody out there in the healthcare biz that
would be
willing to share their 856 spec? We are trying to gather as many as
possible so that our spec takes into account what others in the
industry
need.
