I have an intranet in my house. Very unscientific, but there ya go, it's
the only thing that I have absolute control over and can monitor. This
intranet has, unsurprisingly, an NT server (for a business that I was going
to start "real soon now") and a Linux server (because I had the spare
machine lying around.)

The NT box, generally, crashes (as you say) approximately 1x/week with a
BSOD. The Linux box only comes down when Mother Nature sees fit to remove
house power (no UPS yet) or when I flip the big red switch (actually "Push
the small ivory button.") Now, you can imagine the load on a house
intranet. :-{)

I'm slowly migrating stuff off of the NT box ("Dave, stop. I'm afraid") and
when it's done, it will follow the other one to become a 2nd Linux server.
I anticipate being Microsoft-free in about a year or so. The hardest part
is going to be getting the wife off of Windoze. (The kids are all getting
Imacs and/or Ibooks, by their choice.)
