Hi, Mike!

I would suggest talking to TIE Commerce USA (formerly St. Paul Software and
then SPS Commerce). Briefly, the software side of SPS Commerce was
purchased by a TIE, a Dutch EDI software company. Yep, you guessed
it...they are located in St. Paul, MN.

Anyway, we had a similar unpleasant experience with Sterling. And like you,
we pursued other options. I'm about to sound like I'm on TIE's payroll, but
they are a first-class organization. They are a pleasure to deal with,
their technical support is the best, and all of their software was written
by the people in St. Paul. They didn't purchase the technology.

We have eVision on NT. It is also available on UNIX, and I THINK other
platforms, but don't quote me. We have SAP on UNIX, and eVision interfaces
beautifully with it.

TIE sells other flavors of EDI software and they do have XML software, but
I'm not very familiar with it. (We're working up to XML, but that's another
discussion entirely!!)

You absolutely will not regret calling them. Their website is
www.tiecommerce.com. If I knew where you were located, I could probably
tell you what sales rep to call, but their main number is 651.999.8600.

Good luck!! If you would like to talk to me personally about TIE, then
please email me and we'll arrange something.

Subject: Harbinger e5

I received some documentation this week about the Harbinger e5 upgrade and
frankly, I'm PO'd.

First, they are essentially demanding we "re-purchase" the system for a
reduced price. If we do not upgrade, our current platform (4.1.4) becomes
will be unsupported after the end of the year. I'm no lawyer, but isn't this
getting awfully close to the definition of extortion?

Even more egregious, they demand that our EDI system connect to theirs to
"confirm compliance with this license agreement" and to send "information"
to Peregrine about our system. Whether we "opt-in" or not is utterly moot,
as the information still gets transmitted to them. Am I the only one who is
insulted by this? I'm all for electronic licensing and software download,
don't get me wrong. But this is more like big brother demanding we "update
his records" every month to ensure we aren't somehow "cheating" on our
license.

We are going to pursue other options. I'd be very interested in hearing
about other translation systems that are out there, especially XML-capable
ones.
