Microsoft security patches issued in response to Love Bug et al. can
prevent automatic mailing via MAPI. The same might hold true for other
mail products. It might be worth checking if any updates were applied
shortly before the mailing stopped working. We switched from using a
MAPI interface to a home-brew SMTP client to avoid this potential
problem with automatic mailing of exception and status reports.
