My job is to translate from/to EDI format using the Merctor design studio,
version 5 in an MVS batch environment. We want to be able to generate 997s to
acknowledge any kind of EDI transaction coming in. The Mercator solution is to
generate an 'audit log' semi-XML report for each file coming in, and then map
from the audit log to the 997. I am skeptical whether one map will be able to
translate from the audit log to the 997 for all transactions(considering
possible variations in audit log settings).

Currently I am trying to modify the example that came with the software to work
on MVS mainframe. The maps are supposed to be platform independent, but I have
found the audit log file is different on MVS than the PC, and am trying to
modify the audit log tree for use on MVS.

I am wondering if any other companies are running into this sort of problem and
what their solutions are. Are you writing your own map(s) to generate 997s (and
if so does one map work for all transactions) or have you found it necessary to
purchase a system such as Mercator's Trading Partner to generate
acknowledgments?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.
