First of all, going from 3040 to 4010 will probably create some mapping
differences with regard to dates that will need to be cleaned up in either
case.

In addition, I use a little utility that I ran into some time ago that helps
to move Maps from One version to another. I've used it with TLE EV5 and
have not seen any problems using it.
There is a Text File that I included that documents it's use. The utility
is called CONV_MAP.

Donna's suggestion is true, however, the segment number may need to be
changed in order to successfully import the copied files to the Workbench.
I believe the steps you would want to do are:

1) I COPY the old version of the map to a directory I created called Working
so it is not overlaid or changed accidentally.
2) create the blank 4010 map including the segments desired and be sure to
copy the application set-up from the old map when creating the new one.
(I usually map an initialize command in each segment so that I get the
proper segment numbers to display in the command file - just for easy
reference.)
3) export the new 4010 map
4) change the *.cnt and *.con file in the old file in the working directory
so the segment #'s match the segment #'s of the new file.
5) copy back the changed and renamed old *.cnt and *.con files to the xlate
directory. (If you did not copy the application set-up of old application
during step 2 - you will need to copy and rename the *.app file as well)
6) import new file into the workbench.
7) if there are fatal errors - no import occurs - check to be sure all the
numbers were changed properly on the segments - none were missed or no
typos. Fix errors found and reimport.
7A) if there are errors during opening - but import successfully completed.
There may be some elements eliminated or some other problem between the
standard changes. Look for ??? in the map and fix. Once all has been
fixed, export and use the map.

files in /wb/xlate/ to a new name, retain suffixes), then make a blank map
for the document in 4010, and import the copies. Then open the map and
tweak to fit - you'll have to be particularly careful of missing segments
and elements no longer supported or added since the version change.

This has worked pretty well for me in the past --
