Interesting.  As I recall GENTRAN:Director and/or GENTRAN:Server for NT were
developed by a British company.  My experience with UNIX and mainframe
translators is that you must explicitly disenable segments but again my
experience is with large companies few of which ran on PCs or Windows NT.

Enabling most current EDI translators to generate 997s based on an IG would
require a redesign.  IGs include business rules which cannot be expressed
easily or at all in most Standards Editors.  One thing that we have to
remember is that there are at least three levels of "standards" against
which a 997 might be generated:
ANSI X12
Industry IGs
Trading Partner IGs (Presumably a subset of the industry IG but not
necessarily)
