I (group of one) chose to use Peregrine's Professional Services for
e-version 5.1 upgrade.
Previous upgrades of TLE were accomplished successfully, but I wanted
someone on
site; to resolve any issues (promptly) and learn as much as I could from
someone who
knows the product better than I do.

Best advice; plan, prepare, read, ask questions, review and review again to
ensure you
are ready to upgrade your test/development server with e-version 5.1. I
read every
document emailed, from Peregrine, to prepare for the upgrade and allowed
plenty of
time for our DBA and HP/UNIX admin to prepare as well.

Our HP/UNIX server and PC workstations were ready for Peregrine's
Professional Services
at least a week, before they (he) arrived. We did have to make one
upgrade, Net 8 or
ORACLE 8.06 data base client.

Upgrade of e-version 5.1 on our HP/UNIX 11; 64 bit server and loading of
e-version 5.1
workbench software was accomplished in one day. (In general, TLE 4.1.4
data base
was copied to our development server, and then all files/directories under
the root
"edi" directory were copied to our development server) (using ORACLE 8.1.6)

Next tested an inbound/outbound map (exported from TLE 4.1.4, copied to
e-version 5.1
workbench directory, defined new event in e-version 5.1, saved new event,
imported
TLE 4.1.4 map into new event, saved again, and then exported newly defined
event
(from e-version 5.1).

Tested communication links; we primarily use bisync method; some direct
and
some to ADVANTIS. Encountered some difficulty connecting with ADVANTIS,
but were able to resolve the issue.

Gave OPS Center a good going over, ran several maintenance routines.

Any issue that came up, that could not be resolved with available resources
notes, knowledge base, a call was made to Peregrine Support and there
was no waiting for an answer. Any email sent to Peregrine, was usually
answered by several Peregrine employees, rather quickly.

Overall, my experience was good.

You can obtain a project plan or "Statement Of Work" as Peregrine likes to
call
it, from their Professional Services Group. (If you need a contact, your
sales
rep can help, or you can email me directly and I will provide a name and
phone number).

We (I) plan to spend several weeks testing and giving e-version 5.1 a
good going over. As I am a group of one, I have to be able to handle
new development, production support all at the same time, so going
into production in a few weeks is not an option.

I was told that in some cases, after a map was imported from TLE 4.n
and imported into e-version 5, that some of the mapping statements
were corrupted. So, it is a good idea to view each map after it has
been imported into e-version 5.1.

I also found out that; under the Communication option, Mailbox Properties;
that the In-User Id Field (to the right of User Id field) is now checked
for uniqueness among the Communication Providers. I was told that
it was fixed as it was a bug, but for all the TLE 4 versions I had, it
was not a bug (for me) but a nice feature. But it all has to do with the
way I have defined Communication Providers as they relate to
Trading Partners.

I think this about covers it, feel free to email (off line) for more
questions or feel free to call: 713.235.6207.

Hi All,

We are taking the TLE plunge, and I was hoping to gather some feedback from
the ones that are already in the pool. Our EDI environment is TLE 4.1.1 on
a HP/Unix server and an Oracle DB.

1. How was the quality of the install?
2. How long was the server and database upgrades, and the actual
install?
3. Did you do a fresh install or an update? Which is better?
4. Any pitfalls or advice on the unknowns?
5. Will you share you project plan with me? I only ask that, because
I
have shared my project plans with others in the past. Hopefully, Karma
pays
off for me.
6. We are very likely to use a Peregrine consultant on the project. I
believe that we might get better/quicker support on issues. However, if
you
used a consultant, what was your experience?
7. How was Peregrine's support for the install?
8. How is the quality of the product now that you are in production?

I have kept most of the emails from past Q and A on this topic, but I would
like to see if there have been any new learnings since.

Okay, who put the Baby Ruth bar in the pool! :-) ... I blame my sick sense
of humor on my cold medicine.

Thanks much for sharing,
