My comment was meant to convey the sense that if they use their VANs to send
ACH 820s, that they probably view these connections as reasonably secure or
have taken steps to make them so. Although I don't have direct knowledge
of their security methods, not really needing to know this information.

I must amplify that the 820 remittance advice that comes from our bank does
include the deposit information such as ACH routing numbers and customer
account numbers. In that respect, they're acting more as a relay than
anything else. It also simplifies things, since all the customers send
their 820s into the bank in various versions and all we need to do is have
the single 820 version coded to accept the transaction from the bank.
We don't use this information, obviously, in a cash application environment,
but it does exist.
