Hi Everyone,
I'm in full agreement with Rachel as to federal guidelines for EDI retention,
but I do believe there are NARA (National Archives and Records
Administration) and/or IRS guidelines for retention where commercial
transactions have taken place (examples: purchase orders, invoices). The
general guideline is that (as I remember, anyway) the transactions must be
maintained for seven years, along with the software version and hardware
capable of reproducing the entries into or out of the format originally
generated. So, if the original hardware was a 486 running Trading Partner
version 2.0 (I'm making this up) with 5 1/4" disks for storage media, then
you'd have to cough up those parameters within the seven-year window.
All the best,
Nora
