Hi,
Could any one help me with the Tech interview questions related particularly for Mercator, Gentran and SAP... Some people need support, maybe even micro-managing, until they get up to speed, others don't and would rather jump in neck deep. Always remember that just because you might prefer one method it doesn't mean the perspective employee does, and it's important to ask up front. -----Original Message----- From: Susan Stecklair [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 2004 10:47 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [EDI-L] RE: Tech Interview Questions Hi -- Another area of focus is the environment. If SAP, ask questions on IDOC structure, EDPAR, etc. If Oracle, ask about the EC Gateway & how it works. You might also want to ask questions regarding the amount of customization they did, why & how long did it take. ( I see a lot of re-inventing of the wheel because people do not understand the basic functionality of the products, and problems due to customization.) What was their fastest implementation? If in order management, what % of lines successfully booked? or some other stat to see if they are monitering the success of the project. If they need UNIX or SQL experience, you might ask a question about that. Also question if they have ever had a difficult customer (internal or external) and how they handled it. How active are they with EC commerce organizations? Training? Certifications? Ongoing community courses? Have they been a speaker or written on the topic? What project were they most proud of? What would they have done differently in hindsight? What is their communication method? Status reports? etc. Education? Technical courses? Do they have any business background? Accounting? Project Management? Do they feel they will need a lot of support to get up to speed? or minimal supervision? Are there any skills they don't have for the project that will require additional resources? I agree with some of the others that some questions can be too technical although it doesn't hurt to ask a few. And, remember, some are specific to industries. Good luck. Interviewing & finding good people is the most difficult skill of all. Naturally, follow up with the references. Also be sure that you ask regarding the skill level. Do they need a lot of supervision to get something done? Are they quick? or slow? Easy to manage or difficult?
