James:

Here is a link to the ASC X12 History of EDI dating back to 1850 through
2004.

Ralph Notto, another founding father of EDI as we know it today has written
a book on EDI titled "Challenge and Consequence" which is in the finishing
stages of editing and layout. On 1/14/2005 he indicated it will be available
from Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and Borders Books in the near future.

My offer to answer as many of your questions that I can is still open. My
number (302) 368-3913 is a home number as I am retired. Today I have a
retirement luncheon to attend in Philadelphia, PA and will not be available
between 10AM and 3PM.

  Hi John,

Thank you so much for your kind offer. It is appreciated. I have worked
around X12 for too long now and never bothered to do the research as I didn't
really care who the specific management company was. I became interested as we
are hiring people in Asia and I thought a back grounder on ANSI, DISA and X12
would be appropriate as part of their training. My bad for offering what I
found without cross checking it first. Perhaps do you know of a "History of
EDI" type book or publication I could pick up for the training course?

The original email trail started below. Dennis was looking for info on the
standards and publishing them.

  Best Regards,

  James Hatcher

    There are a few at:
    http://www.edidev.com/downloadsef.htm

I'm pretty sure that you can go to the Foresight site and download their
reader. It may include many more .SEF files
    http://www.foresightcorp.com/e/resources/index.htm

They buy them from DISA for a lot of money.
Do a search for DISA in the google archives for a long discussion on this
;-)

We keep a large list of useful resources at:
