Chris, I'm certainly no fan of programming or translator questions on
EDI-L either. The vendor (Proxymed the healthcare clearinghouse, I
presume) should be contacted.

But at least give Zorrinn credit for picking the right environment
(Linux and Java), as opposed to, say, z/OS (MVS) and COBOL. As an aside,
I don't think Zorrinn's gonna be running a Windows DLL under Linux - JNI
or no - anytime soon unless he has a Windows emulator.

Speaking of z/OS and COBOL, take a look-see at
http://www.rosslabs.com/B2B/, where local Ross Labs announces "EDI - A
traditional mainframe-system e-commerce solution." Can't make it sound
any sexier than that, huh? Don't get me wrong, but, jeez, "traditional"
and "mainframe-system" kind of go with "buggy-whip" and "green eye
shades." C'mon, I can "do" z/OS, JCL, ANSI X12 and UN/EDIFACT with the
best of 'em, but I'm almost afraid to admit it now.

No wonder the young guys and gals who grew up with Linux and Java think
the future lay with gussied-up UML-modeled core-componentized ISO 11179
compliant XML based e-business standards like OASIS UBL. They're just
waiting on the old farts to up and die, taking their X12 and EDIFACT
with them. Maybe they don't have long to wait: have you noticed the
average age of attendees at X12 meetings?

I think that your .dll would have to be recompiled as a .so to work
under Linux. Since your query concerns Java and Linux, rather than EDI,
you might be more successful asking in newsgroups dealing in those
topics.
