"Hey" back to you. Lisa, this is not an appropriate forum for solving
problems you're having with Sterling's GIS package. We need to free up
EDI-L for discussion of "big picture" e-business interoperability and
standards issues. Otherwise it would be unfair to the many fine
e-business software vendors who do appear to provide technical support.
You've heard everyone raving about Softshare Delta throughout the week,
as "Softshare's support is excellent" - which I take to mean they
actually answer the phone and answer your questions. More power to them
for not abandoning their customers to EDI-L for support.

Having said that, the standard technical support answer is "Reboot your
machine." Failing that, then "reformat your hard drive and start all
over again." Apparently you've tried that by re-installing Java and
GIS. So why not just try clearing the cache on Internet Explorer (Tools
|Internet Options | Delete Files)?

Subject: [EDI-L] GIS Installation

Hey all,

I was trying to install GIS 3.1 on my laptop as a server, I have a
XP home OS. The installation was fine and I was able to run it just
fine. But when I was trying to open the Graphical Process Modeller I
got an error message:

"Unable to launch the specified application"

at the java web start window.

On the details tab it says:

" An error occurred while launching/running the application.
Category: Invalid Argument error
Could not load file/URL specified"

On an Exception Tab it says:

"CouldNotLoadArgumentException[ Could not load file/URL specified]

at com.sun.javaws.Main.main(Unknown Source)"

On the Wrapped Exception tab it says:

" java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Documents and
Settings\Lisa\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
\LR3RP98E\ProcessModeler[1].jnlp (The system cannot find the file
specified)

at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)

at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)

at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)

at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor
(Unknown Source)

at com.sun.javaws.Main.main(Unknown Source)

I tried uninstallig/reinsatalling:

1. Java Runtime
2. Java 2 SDK
3. Java Webstart
4. GIS Itself...

Any help would be highly appreciated..

thanks

- Lisa
