Jan, Fax for EDI is somewhat of an oxymoron, it seems. My company is a healthcare products manufacturer, and many of our customers and suppliers are not EDI capable, so we use fax as a backup. EDI is not really involved.
We have an application where we electronically create and send a fax document (PO Ack) that ends up on our customer's fax machine or server. We don't consider it EDI. We also create emails out of our EDI system that server as an internal notification of a PO in or ASN out. Another firm I worked with, after I stopped supporting their EDI solution opted to fax their invoices to a service bureau, which entered the faxed document into a web forms system to be sent out EDI. The SB also faxed them their EDI POs. They are in the grocery supplies business. Fax is ugly. Fax to EDI is most ugly.
