My knee jerk reaction is to agree that it doesn't matter 
what "industry standard object" they are using; bad data is bad 
data.  After some thought it might not be so black & white .. it 
depends on the nature of the data as to how bad the violation is.  
For example, a bad date or out of sequence segments as you described 
is pretty.  On the other hand, if an element represents $10.50 and 
the trailing zero doesn't get lopped off .. well .. normally a 
system that's importing that file won't balk.
