Whilst looking for an N1 code yesterday, I saw some of the oddest
descriptions and I always wondered. Are these codes requested by
organizations only or are some just put in by X12 committees to attract
usage?

Regards,
-Steve

The draft Data Element Dictionary can be found at
http://www.x12.org/x12org/subcommittees/dev/pdf/V5_x123.pdf
It's free. It's downloadable and the other documents are there too.

The link is on our links page at:
http://www.spe-edi.com/links.html#Standard
Look for X12 draft v5

While I agree with Mike about having specific Implementation Guides, the
file
can be very useful when the IG is missing the explanations and is using an
obscure value. In addition, it can be useful when creating your own IG.

Nothing livens up a party more than being able to say, "Did you know there
were
over 13 pages for Unit of Measure Code, Element 335 in the X12 EDI
Standard?.
Everything from 01 Actual Pounds to everyone's favorite ZZ Mutually
Defined."
