Update. I think I understand what happened as aided by an anonymous 
person on this list.

  The 
  email was sent out with receipt requested from one person on the list. The 
  receipt was returned to the list by everyone who accepted and returned 
  receipts. This can be automatic (no user intervention). Then, the receipt 
  destined for the original recipient was sent out to the LIST intended for the 
  original sender. BUT because its a list, every one got a copy as if it came 
  from THEIR machine.
   
  So 
  as my anonymous friend stated, there is no fraud. Just an email list serv 
  system that does not know how to route back ONLY to the originator when its a 
  RECEIPT and only a RECEIPT.
   
  That 
  would be pretty cool if the list serv was intelligent enough to know, that 
  only that one participant, the originator of the receipt should get the 
  receipt message. Sounds like an enhancement to me.

    This was never sent my this machine, client nor is it authorized by 
    me.  I am receiving hundreds of receipts for an email I never sent out. 
    If you received an email regarding 
    this title "Read: [EDI-L] Expedite for Windows" or similar it was not set by 
    me and should be deleted immediately.
    
       
      If you 
      discover the entity that has sent these emails, please contact the FBI and 
      local police authorities (identity theft).
