Mark, I agree with most of your comments. However, if many SMEs continue to do business with paper or faxes, wouldn't they be able to do the same with an electronic equivalent of these documents (i.e. a text file that looks exactly like a PO)? You can print it, edit it, key in the data, etc. Plus one more thing you can't do with paper, import/export the data to existing applications. If nothing else HUBs and spokes would save a lot in paper, handling, stamps, phone bills, etc..
As to Web based translation, that's OK except you still depend on third parties for your transaction processing and must pay fees for their intermediarism. Dito for Service Bureaus!
