I have GIS running for almost one year and potentially have some insight
that may be of help.
The size of the DB will depend primarily on two factors outside of the GIS
system installation itself:
1) Life of active business processes (BP)
2) Number day's business process data will remain in the system
3) Size of associated transactions
Since GIS is meant to automate BP's, the information from executed business
processes and there associated documents are meant only to be kept for the
life of the business process and some short time after the execution has
completed.
We have a less volume than you and have our GIS instance at 10GB and have
not exceeded the size (again because we archive/purge old BP data to the
file system). I have set the BP data to purge from the live tables to disk
w/n 15 days (and in some instance 30 days).
Below might be of some help in determine your DB size
Transactions Average Size Approx. GB
(In Bytes) Used per day
1) 10,000 20,000 .186
2) 10,000 100,000 .931
3) 10,000 1,000,000 9.313
Let's say that you wanted to keep BP data for 15 days and then purge it from
the live table to disk. Also, we can safely allocate 5 GB for the suite
installation. Based on that, you will have the DB sizes requirements.
1) 2.79 + 5 = 7.79 GB
2) 13.97 + 5 = 18.97 GB
3) 139.70 + 5 = 144.70 GB

Can anyone who is running GIS tell big of a DB they are using? We are
thinking or purchasing GIS but need to know how large of a DB base we will
need. Currently we are running about 10,000 transactions a day through
Gentran NT. Any assistance would be great.
