Hello Art, The problem for Suppliers in a VMI Process is, that they most often have to deal with their customers VMI Tools (Web Monitors, Sales Reports, etc). The more customers you have the more variation in data quality and process you have.
The common case is most often to have sales (or shippment or stock) reports and normalize them in a way your CFP enabled ERP can handle them. There are some forecast panning applications which can be run before your ERP and create simulated orders, as the second solution. This however is not an EDI tool. I know a lot customers who developed the planning and disposition tool themself, because the power of this tool is a big part of their business success. In some industries you find forecasting which even can receive wheather reports or know about official school holidays. Of course I dont now how your specific VMI process looks like. If it is a simple "low stoc" alert system (think kanban) all ERPs should be able to handle that.
