Hi Scott, Within the high tech supply chain (especially semiconductors), the 844/849/845 set is most commonly used for Ship and Debit (or Ship and Credit) business processes. Also used in conjunction with the 840/843 quote/quote response transactions which front-end the entire process. Ship and Debit is between a supplier and a distributor, and is used to protect distributor margins in the face declining market price vs. a static distributor cost. Authorizations for debit go through a rather rigorous set of cross-checks, validated by POS (867) before credit is given. The semiconductor industry and its distributors are the largest users of this scenario, although I've seen other verticals with very similar operations.

I am in the > Wholesale/Distribution industry. Our clients use the 940/945 when shipping with 3rd party warehousing companies. The 940 requests a shipment, the 945 contains the details of what was shipped. None use the 849... yet ;-) Earl Wertheimer [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.spe-edi.com .
