I am the only EDI'er in my company. For a short time we hired a
contractor as my backup (what a luxury that was), but contracts only
last so long.
I handle all Trading Partner coordination, guidelines development,
mapping, application requirements, testing, problem resolution, and the
daily production support of Gentran and our VAN communications.
My management wants to know why I don't cross train in other areas of
the business....

How many of you all get involved with upstream EDI activities,
such as defining functional requirements, application design, and API
requirements?
I know some EDI people who hold the "translate and transmit"
scope of responsibilties. While in another environment in which I
worked, the EDI resource contributed to the whole life cycle:
user >> application >> translation >> customer application >>
end users
Has there been any studies on this?
