I'll stick with my estimates, Thomas. Studies have shown that the best programmers can be up to 20 (that's TWENTY) times more productive than the worst. I've worked with people on both ends of the spectrum, and have no reason to doubt the studies. That's why I give wide ranges and caveats when estimating for other people.
If Carla is an above average performer and is able to get the help you suggest, then she might be able to get the job done in a couple of weeks (or less if she's really good), including the time she will need for research, finding mentor(s), and learning from them. (Training would be even better, but of course that takes more time and money.) OTOH, if she's a below average performer and doesn't get any help, it could easily take a month or more (and we're just talking about a six to one ratio here, not twenty to one).
