Shouldn't be. Sounds to me like the person at Advantis is misinformed.
The EDIFACT syntax (aka ISO 9735) specifies "default" separators that
must be recognized if no UNA segment is sent immediately prior to the
UNB header segment. There are two default sets depending upon the
character set and syntax version chosen, but in neither case is x'7D'
the default segment terminator. If x'7D' is to be used as the
terminator, then the interchange must be preceded by a UNA that defines
all of the separators to be used.

Additionally, even though it shouldn't be necessary, I believe you can
use a UNA segment that specifies the default characters. I don't know
if your translation software permits this but it might be worth a try.

Don,

No, not EBCDIC.

But here is something odd.

Advantis tells me that the "accepted" EDIFACT segment terminator is HEX
7D.

That looks wrong. Is this a UNIX thing?

Thanks,

  Dan,

Are you using EBCDIC on the AIX box, and then converting to ASCII?
That
might be your problem in that there are characters that don't convert
well
from EBCDIC to ASCII and screw up your documents.

  Just a thought.

NatureHave any of you had problems with Advantis having problems
recognizing
the ' as the segment terminator for EDIFACT?

We just switched platforms from mainframe to AIX, and Advantis is
balking
at
  the tick mark (hex 27).

Oddly enough, in a XP test box, when I send the same files FTP'd from
the
AIX box, they work like a charm.

  And ideas?
  Thanks,
