I am not smokin' anything and I used to be a developer for many years. My point was that jumping from C++ to JAVA or from JavaScript to VB Script or to Perl is not the same thing as picking up EDI.
I have run into many cases while interviewing when a developer thinks they can just pick up EDI as if it was another scripting language or something. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Travis Truax Sent: Tuesday, May 16, 2006 5:40 AM To: '[email protected]' Subject: RE: [EDI-L] PLEASE HELP AS EARLY AS POSSSIBLE. >>"EDI is NOT a like an easy programming language that you can pick >>simply pick up if you are a good developer, EDI is an industry, you >>have to appreciate the fact that it takes years to build good >>experience to make a career out of it. Just a guy who thinks that if he can BS his way through an interview he will get the job, then eventually...maybe...someday...have a clue as to what EDI is, and how it and the software really work. Sad day in the EDI world if that happens....... We all had to start from somewhere, if you want to make your entry into EDI, I recommend you get an ENTRY LEVEL (means 0 or close to 0 experience) mapper job and from there build your way up. How did you do "a lot of maps" in Gentran if you do not know what X12 is? You would also know as you state "How a edi tool work" and you would know what a "trading partner" is and what an "envelope" then maybe you would do well in your interview. I feel bad for your potential employer if you BS your way through to get the job. EDI is NOT a like an easy programming language that you can pick simply pick up if you are a good developer, EDI is an industry, you have to appreciate the fact that it takes years to build good experience to make a career out of it. You can not do that in two days. _____ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of nishu kr Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 2:08 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [edi_gns] RE: [EDI-L] PLEASE HELP AS EARLY AS POSSSIBLE. thanks all , now i have certainly come to know a lot about this field. i accept my fault of not properly putting my querries.
