I was hired by the very first company to produce an off-the-shelf EDI translator, EDI Inc (makers of TELINK) back in 1984. Between working for various organizations, and being a consultant for the last 8 years, I've implemented EDI systems for maybe 30 different organizations. It is an enormous amount of fun. And I would challenge anyone to find an occupation that is as deep, as broad, or as rich.
After all, EDI is really about the: - Purchase Orders and Invoices - I mean, it is all about buying and selling. You get to know the folks from ordering, and receivables. You get to know the entire business process, frequently better than the folks that are responsible for it. Right? Well, not really. It is really all about the - Trading partners - Without them, you have nothing. So you get to know many of your most powerful customers and vendors, and you are largely responsible for the relationship. Well, actually, EDI is about - Communications - You KNOW that it is all about communications. FTP, BBS, HTTPs, AS1/2. But you cannot forget the - Translation - Nobody knows the data better than you. And finally, you get to know the senior management at a very intimate level. If you personally don't, screw up the production system just.one.time. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michael Mattias Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 3:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [EDI-L] Re: Determined! :) 6/15/06 I've stayed in the EDI field all these years (about 12 as independent consultant) for one main reason: It's hard. "It's hard" just makes it all that much sweeter when I get that "thank you" from a client. MCM ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Something is new at Yahoo!
