I have a client that is also in the process of doing the same. The exports from GP are easy, since they can just select columns and export to CSV. They also have a tool which helps them import data. I'm not doing the GP work, so I don't know the details, but it was previously mentioned here... File Integrator?? I'll have more news next week...
