I have zero experience with Gentran, but a bit with Samba.
You _can_ check the status of various processes in Unix. I have seen Samba
stop for no good reason. All documents would simply not appear, until the
process was restarted. At some point, we just wrote a script that would
restart the process...
As was already pointed out, you have to isolate the problem component... This
will make fixing the problem a lot easier...
