I agree with Samantha, I have used GIS's 4.1 FTP with the perimeter server deployed in the DMZ, and it works great. I'm having trouble seen how someone would not want to implement GIS FTP unless they didn't purchase the FTP server to begin with, and now don't want to pay the price. I did an implementation for GIS and GlobalScape but that in the long run turned out to be much more expensive. On the other hand, we are all assuming you mean FTP server, and not FTP Client services. In which case this whole conversation would be insane.
